GREEN GLOBE 21 has always been committed to raising standards of sustainable tourism in developing markets and has specifically supported initiatives in Africa and the Caribbean in this respect. The economic and social elements of the Triple Bottom Line analysis are particularly relevant here, where tourism can be a catalyst for fundamental improvement in poverty eradication, social integration and gender equality as well as job creation. In this context we are actively searching for ways and means to incorporate key elements of the World Tourism Organizations Code of Ethics into future versions of the GREEN GLOBE 21 Standard.

We have now sponsored a unique development arising out of Southern Africa with a worldwide potential to raise social standards among young school leavers with little or no job prospects. This is a down to earth manual / training system devised and operated out of the Entrepreneurship Academy in Cape Town, emphasising the central role of local communities in sustainable tourism and the entrepreneurial qualities and values needed for success of small businesses in this sector.

In addition through GGv Sustainable Tourism Laboratory GREEN GLOBE 21 is researching other programs and technology transfer to help promote sustainable tourism in emerging markets.
