Inaugurated by Sol Meliá in 1995, the Meliá Bali was the first hotel to be built in the Balinese region of Nusa Dua. Following the guidelines of the Sol Meliá Environmental Protection Manual the Meliá Bali has implemented a sophisticated environmental management programme that includes waste recycling, energy saving, reduction in noise pollution and the use of environmentally friendly products and materials.
Meliá Bali have implemented a number of projects in addition to the comprehensive in-house environmental programme. These include:
- MELIÁ BALI REACHES FOR THE CHILDREN the resort has joined forces with a team of local doctors to assist the children of Bali with much needed medicines. By appealing to guests visiting the resort staff collect unused medicines and first aid supplies. These items are sent to a nurse who distributes the medicines to village doctors. Local tour operators have also been asked to support the project.
- THE FLY PROJECT this project helps to preserve Bali's diverse bird life. It provides medical care and rehabilitation for sick and injured birds native to Bali. The project also purchases birds which are ?for sale? and rehabilitates them for a return to the wild.
- ORGANIC GARDEN the resort has been recognised for many years for its beautifully manicured indigenous gardens. It has now created the first organic garden in the Nusa Dua area to grow fruit and vegetables for guests at the resort.
